Add an Instrument and Review Its Service History

Create a persistent instrument record and use it to review repair history across multiple visits.

Published October 16, 2026

Instrument records let AXB follow the same guitar, bass, or other instrument across multiple service visits.

Add an instrument

You can add an instrument from a client record or while creating a work order.

Typical instrument information includes:

  • Make
  • Model
  • Instrument type
  • Model year
  • Serial number
  • Finish
  • Attributes
  • Internal notes

Make + Model is the main identity

AXB uses Make + Model as the short instrument identity.

Attributes are useful for short details that distinguish one instrument from another, such as:

  • HSS
  • Floyd Rose
  • Left-handed
  • 7-string
  • Maple neck

Use Notes for longer internal information.

Review service history

Open the instrument record to see its linked repair history.

Service History can include completed, cancelled, and active work orders, so you can see what the shop has previously done to that instrument.

This is useful when a guitar returns months later and you need to know:

  • What work was performed
  • What the previous Scope of Work was
  • Whether the same issue has appeared before
  • Which earlier repair record to open for more detail

Edit the instrument

Update the instrument record when its current identifying information changes or more detail becomes available.

Older work orders keep their historical intake information rather than being silently rewritten to match later instrument edits.
